Yesterday a news reporter Alison Parker and her cameraman Adam Ward were shot and killed on live TV, Vicki Gardner who is the executive director of the local official of Smith Mountain Lake in VA was shot and is now in stable condition stated by New York Magazine. All three victims were shot by Vester Lee Flanagan II who later yesterday killed himself. This act of violence shocked the nation, for it was all playing out on live TV broadcast.
As the day went on we learned that the shooter have recorded the shooting and had posted it on his Twitter and Facebook accounts. How crazy is that, not only was the shooting live on TV he was making the shooting video accessible to the whole world. Is this what we have come to?
Have we become a society that shares everything, expresses everything and has no regards of the consequences that may come? Look at cyberbullying… When going through Facebook or Twitter are we giving too much information, so much that we have moved to a video game execution accessible for the world?
My heart goes out to the families involved in this tragedy and prayers for Ms. Gardner for a speedy recovery. Yet I am terrified that the posting of this video becomes a sick trend for others to start. Maybe if we just became a society that respected one another and learned that nothing good can come from sharing too much information.
